A career recession

A Career RecessionThe global economic recession has felt nothing short of going through a few rounds with one of those big fisted type heavy weight boxers. With a focus on the financial aspects of the recession, analysts, forecasters and the like have been running a mock with their theories and insights into why the recession actually happened and what it’s ramifications have on various sectors of the economy.

At FirstStep.me we like to change and look at things differently, hence the fun side of being serious…But what if the actual economic recession is or was the result of a career recession. Yes you read that correct, a career recession whereby individuals are not suited to the job that they were placed in, leading to individuals not able to correctly perform the role they are employed to do. This results in poor business turnover and performance, which we now put forward as the reason for the financial recession. From here we can lay blame either on the companies hiring the wrong individuals, or actual individuals not thinking more carefully about the careers they choose or find themselves walking into.

Young entrepreneurs – do you have what it takes?
Do you have what it takes? Provided by The South African SME Toolkit, an information portal for South African entrepreneurs.

The fact that the SME sector is a tough industry to break into does not seem to deter the average young entrepreneur. But are big ideas, determination, passion and the will to succeed enough to be truly successful or could your age and a lack of higher education be your downfall?

This generation of school-leavers is probably facing the greatest obstacle to entering the working world. High unemployment levels, lack of work experience and the high price of tertiary education means that more and more young people are trying to start their own businesses.

Roaming NewtonRoaming Newton Chapter 9:

Welcome to Auckland:

Keeping up with the Jones is something that many people like to do, however on arrival in New Zealand I realized it was all about keeping up with the Aussies, but in a more relaxed sort of manner, which I guess gives New Zealand that really calm feel as opposed to a metropolis build that Australia has. Stepping into Auckland International Airport was great fun, especially the part whereby the customs officer asked me if I spoke English! My reply was garbled swear words, well that was what I was saying exceedingly loudly in my mind, my real response was nothing short of a polite “yes maam, I do…” the customs officer being about three times my size, enough said.
